Moldovan wine named Wine of the Week in UK

The wine Rara Neagra de Purcari was named the Wine of the Week in the UK by the most famous British wine connoisseur Tom Cannavan, who is also the producer of the program Wine of the Week, IPN reports.

The expert said that Moldova is one of those ‘bubbling’ under countries which, since the dissolution of the Soviet Union, has slowly been finding its wine feet. He noted he is glad to see the Moldovan wines on shelves in shops in the UK. The Wine of the Week is chosen according to such criteria as quality, price and value. The program Wine of the Week appreciated in time wines made in the largest winemaking countries, including New Zealand, Spain, France, Portugal, Uruguay, Argentina, and Italy.

According to a communiqué of Purcari company, Rara Neagra de Purcari is made from the indigenous Rara Neagra variety, harvested with low yields and made in steel with no oak influence. It pours an inviting, not too dense garnet red, with a really delightful nose: dried herbs and juicy red cherries, a touch of pomegranate and floral lift and plenty of pepper and spice. The wine is matured in French barriques from Seguin Moreau and Mercier.

Wine expert at BBC, The Huffington Post and wine-pages.com, Tom Cannavan is a pioneer of the wine promoted over the Internet and was named the Wine Writer of the Year in 2010 by the wine industry of Portugal.

The winery Vinaria Purcari recently started to cooperate with the largest and oldest wine supplier in London Berry Bros. & Rudd. Thus, the wines of Purcari can be found in the UK.
