The Supreme Security Council (CSS) responded to the call of the US Government to prolong the participation of Moldovan militaries in the international post-conflict operation in Iraq. According to the presidential service’s report, CSS examined and accepted the proposal, requiring the Government to start the procedure according to the legislation in force. The Ministry of Defense shall undertake the appropriate measures in order to select contract soldiers; ensure their training, equipping, and their security during these operations. At present 11 soldiers from Moldova take part at the international operation in Iraq. It is the third squad of Moldovan militaries to be involved in the international post-conflict Iraqi operation, the other two being sent on mission in September 2003 – March 2004 and July 2004 – February 2005.
