The Moldovan-Romanian Border Treaty will be ratified by the Parliaments of the two countries in the near future. Related statements were made by the chairman of the Romanian Senate's commission for foreign policy Titus Corlatean, who is in Chisinau on a working visit, and his Moldovan counterpart Igor Corman, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference on Tuesday, the Romanian official said that the treaty must be signed as this is a necessity and there are no problems hindering its ratification. Igor Corman, chairman of the foreign policy commission of the Moldovan legislature, said that Moldova needs this treaty to be ratified and this thing should happen soon. The treaty was a controversial subject in the period of the election campaign of 2010 and during the first weeks after the elections. Some of the Moldovan political leaders described the treaty as unconstitutional, while others stated it should be signed as soon as possible. The Romanian official also said that Moldova needs political stability so that the European partners are sure that the initiated reforms will be continued and will be implemented successfully. Titus Corlatean stated that they decided to set up an interparliamentary European integration commission this year, which will create the legal basis needed by Moldova to make progress on the path to European integration. He added that Romania and the European Union approve of the fact that the European projects in Moldova go on, stressing that they will continue to support Moldova in its European integration efforts. Titus Corlatean and a group of Romanian lawmakers have paid a three-day working visit to Chisinau. They discussed subjects related to the cooperation between the legislatures of Romania and Moldova. The Romanian official had meetings with Acting President and Head of Parliament Marian Lupu, Prime Minister Vlad Filat, Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca, Minister of Justice Alexandru Tanase, and the heads of the four parliamentary parties.
