Moldovan parties are against EU integration, experts say

The message of the Moldovan political parties with respect to the EU integration does not represent their genuine will but merely populist statements to attract more votes, experts say. Political analyst Corneliu Ciurea stated on Wednesday at a round of public debates on Moldova’s European prospects that the parties feel rather uncomfortable about the idea of the European integration, because an EU member state will have less and less need for politics and politicians. Europe, as an integrationist project represents an attempt for escaping from politics and a movement towards denationalisation. A Europe created on the basis of this concept means “banishing political parties from the political life”, the expert stated. University Professor Teodor Candu also said that the pro-European message of the political parties represents in fact only a part of the struggle for votes, and, therefore, is a populist one. Since 2003, almost all the political parties in Moldova, except for several pro-Russian formations, have embraced the pro-European Union message.
