Moldovan judges own land, football clubs and other property

The Moldovan judges, especially those from Chisinau, do not know what poverty is, with small exceptions, said lawyer Tatiana Puiu, who produced the common database magistrat.md. In the program “Without myths” held in the studio of the newspaper “Panorama”, Tatiana Puiu said it’s hard to say who the richest judge is. “Some of the judges simply hide their property, while others declare it honestly. Some register their houses in the name of grandparents or other relatives,”” she stated, quoted by IPN.

Speaking about unordinary possessions, Tatiana Puiu said a judge runs a football club, while another one owns more than 80 plots of land.

According to the lawyer, the database was compiled using official information from the National Integrity Commission and the Supreme Council of Magistrates. Referring to the income statements of judges, she said that almost each second judge takes out loans from banks.

Tatiana Puiu noted that they collected information not only about the propriety of judges, but also about their professional activity, including the disciplinary punishment inflicted on them.

“Anyone can see that some of the judges were awarded the Labor Glory order eve if they lost cases at the ECHR. There are judges whose decisions were recognized as illegal by higher courts of law in 60% of the cases,” stated the lawyer.

Tatiana Puiu also said that people’s complaints about the behavior of judges will be soon added to the database, underlining that they are ready to publish all the objective complaints.
