Moldovan Government appoints new representatives to Joint Control Commission

The Moldovan Government on Wednesday, December 19, assigned several new representatives to the Joint Control Commission (JCC), with Gen. Ion Solonenco, advisor to the director of Moldova’s Security and Information Service, remaining to co-chair the Commission on behalf of Moldova. The body of the Moldovan delegates to the JCC is now composed of Sergiu Golovaci (Deputy Interior Minister), Ion Savciuc (deputy head of the Staff of the National Army), Ion Leahu (deputy head of department at the Security and Information Service), Serghei Valcov (senior consultant at the Reintegration Ministry’s information and analysis department). The Government said the reshuffle was intended to replace the Moldovan representatives who, for various reasons, disrupted their activities in the Commission. The old composition of the JCC was established by the Government decision no.113 of February 2, 1999, with subsequent modifications. With the act of signing the Agreement on Principles of a Peaceful Settlement of the Armed Conflict in the Transnistrian Region on 21 July 1992, Moldova committed itself to participate in the Joint Control Commission by appointing representatives. Founded nearly 15 years ago, JCC monitors the situation in the security zone established on the Nistru. CUC is composed of representatives of Moldova, Russia, Transnistria, OSCE and Ukrainian observers and adopts all the decisions by mutual agreement.
