A suite of government officials and foreign ambassadors today laid flowers at the Embassy of Ukraine in Chisinau to commemorate the innocent victims of the brutal war waged by Russia against Ukraine.
Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi was among the attendance. “Today marks two years since the Russian Federation attacked Ukraine. For two years, Ukraine has heroically resisted this illegal aggression. In solidarity with the Ukrainian people, we went to the Embassy of Ukraine and laid flowers in memory of those who lost their lives in this unjustified war. I assured Ambassador Marko Shevchenko that the Republic of Moldova will provide all the necessary support to Ukraine. In the end, Ukraine will win! Peace will triumph!” declared the minister of foreign affairs.
Romania’s Ambassador Cristian-Leon Țurcanu stated on this occasion: “On February 24, 2024, we commemorate two years since the Russian Federation launched the war of aggression against Ukraine. This moment marked not only an open attack against the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. Every day this aggression continues reconfirms that the Russian Federation represents the most serious threat to the security of the extended Black Sea region, the European continent as a whole, as well as to the entire international rules-based order. Romania, together with the entire international community, mourns the loss of human lives and condemns the war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Russian forces in Ukraine and against Ukraine. There can be no lasting peace in Ukraine without bringing all those responsible for these crimes to justice”.
The Romanian ambassador added that today marks not only two years since the start of the war of aggression against Ukraine, but also 10 years since the illegal annexation of Crimea. “This double commemoration must also be a moment to reaffirm the international community’s appreciation for the extraordinary sacrifice, heroism and resilience demonstrated by the Ukrainian people. In the face of barbarism and aggression, the Ukrainian people continue to fight for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as for its European and Euro-Atlantic future”, declared Cristian-Leon Țurcanu.
