Moldovan energetic resources can be a good investment for “Gazprom”
“Gazprom” is examining at strategic levels, a techno-economical possibility of investing in the energetic sector of RM, taking into account the increased efficiency of Power and Heating Plants (CET). The declaration was made July 19, during a press conference by Ghenadi Abaskin, chairman of “Moldova GAZ”.
According to Abaskin, experts are to arrive at the final stage at the end of July, beginning of August, when “Gazprom” is to make a proposal of investment. Abaskin confirmed that RM proposal was discussed during recent negotiations regarding the price for natural gases, but also mentioned that “investments will not direct their prices.” Investments would be made only with the purpose of reducing the debt to “Gazprom” and minimizing the internal price increase.
Abaskin also states that that once the price for natural gases is to increase, the efficiency of their use would be improved. From this point of view, the role of investment is very important as CETs consume about 40% of total RM gases. According to the cited source the fact that CETs equipment dates from the middle of last century, they are less profitable.
Abaskin said that if “Gazprom” is to invest in RM energetic sector, it will have proprietary rights only on the investment made. This way the cited source denies the possibility of taking over the energetic objectives or by majority of shareholding through conditioning the investment.
The Government, previously declared that it hopes for a decrease in natural gases price as a result of the proposal to “Gazprom” to take part in the investment projects in the energetic sector of RM. Regarding the proposal made to “Gazprom” Prime minister Vasile Tarlev, stated that their purpose is to attract Russian investments, For CET innovation and construction of connections to high pressure conducts which cross RM. Tarlev assures that shareholding of energetic objects will not be passed to Russians, specifying that some sorts of collaboration with “Gazprom” are already identified.
