Moldovan delegation will take part in June 19 Summit of GUAM Heads of State and Government
Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev will participate in the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the GUAM Organisation for Democracy and Economic Development that will take place in the Azerbaijani capital Baku on June 19.
The delegation of the Republic of Moldova to the summit will be composed of the president of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and the deputy ministers of foreign affairs, of internal affairs, Valentin Zubic, of economy and trade and others.
The constitution of GUAM was announced in the autumn of 1997 by the presidents of Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova, who signed a declaration of intention in Strasbourg. Uzbekistan joined GUAM on April 25, 1999, in Washington, during the festivities on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the foundation of NATO. The organisation changed its name into GUUAM. In May 2005, not long after the GUUAM Summit held in Chisinau, Uzbekistan withdrew from the organisation.
