Moldovan cyclists participate in July in two prestigious European competitions
Moldovan cyclists will take part, in July, in two prestigious European competitions. These are the European Championship for Youth and juniors, organized on 13-16 July, in Netherlands, and the 43-rd edition of the Cyclist Tour of Romania, held on 15-23 July.
Moldova will take part in both competitions with two different teams, as they are organized almost in the same time. „We asked for the Romanian part to postpone for a few days the Tour, but it was not possible, that is why we will go to Romania with the second team,” Alexandru Barciuc, general secretary of the Cycling Federation of Moldova, announced about this.
According to him, the composition of both teams will be made public next week. According to the official of the Moldovan cycling Federation, one of the basic figures of the junior team of Moldova might be the European champion of 2005 de Alexandru Pliushkin, world vice-champion in junior category, who at the moment trains at the Cycling Center of Switzerland.
At the 43-rd edition of the Romanian Tour there will also take part, together with Moldova, teams from Turkey, Tunisia, Greece, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Germany, Serbia-Montenegro, as well as four teams from Romania. This year’s circuit includes eight stages and a prologue. The itinerary, with a total length of 1,087 km, will start at Valenii de Munte and ending at Curtea de Arges.
The prizes for the winners of the first three places in the final contest is 500, 300 and 200 euro, and the total value of prizes is of 5,000 euro.
