Moldovan citizens will be exempted from paying fees for consular registration
The fee for temporary or permanent registration with Moldovan consular offices established abroad will be cancelled in a move to encourage Moldovan citizens to make their presence and whereabouts known. Moldova’s consular offices could also waive registration fee for the victims of human trafficking and help these persons return home, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to a bill passed this week by the Government, Moldovan Honorary Consuls will be also exempted from consular fees for processing visa applications. The fees charged in the country by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MFAEI) for processing passport applications, for legalising and issuing other types of documents will be about 20 lei (the legalisation of documents by individuals) and 3,500 lei the fee for relinquishing the Moldovan citizenship.
Consular fees charged by the MFAEI subdivisions established abroad will also be changed. The fee for processing passport applications will be 40 euros (as opposed to 100 euros at present), and 20 euros for attaching a child’s photo to the passport. Visa fees for foreign citizens will range from 40 to 200 euros, depending on the type of visa. Citizens that have lost their documents will pay a consular fee of 20 euros (as opposed to 40 euros at present) to get a certificate of return to Moldova.
Premier Vasile Tarlev requested a higher consular fee for registering divorces (200 euros at present) and lower fees for registering marriages (100 euros at present). The Premier explained that “there are a lot of fictitious divorces which pursue dirty goals”.
The Premier voiced concern for Moldovan citizens who left the country legally or illegally. According to him, MFAEI must make sure that all the certificates, authorisations and consultations are provided free of charge. It must also keep strict record of all Moldovan citizens from abroad and of their children, especially new-borns, Tarlev stressed.
Moldova has 18 diplomatic representations and two general consulates in the EU member states.
