Moldovan citizens to receive free Estonian visas

Starting from January 2007, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova will receive free visas to visit Estonia (EU member country), and the Moldovan diplomats will have the possibility to visit this country without visas, the Estonian minister of Foreign Affairs, Urmas Paet who is paying a visit to Moldova, declared on Thursday, October 26 at a press conference. In this context he mentioned about the importance of the cooperation between EU and Moldova as regards the present visa regime, which will allow opening more opportunities to Moldovan citizens, including the opening of the joint EU visa issuance center. Within the frameworks of this visit, the consulate of this country was opened in Chisinau. Paet said that he appreciates the high cooperation level with Moldova. At the moment, Estonia has three main development cooperation partners, including Moldova. The cited source declared that Estonia pleads in favor of expanding the EU Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM) at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border. The Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Andrei Stratan expressed his gratitude to Moldova for its constructive and consequent attitude in settling the Transnistrian conflict and remarked the contribution Estonia has provided in creating and expanding the Border Assistance Mission. During the Estonian official’s visit, the Development Partnership Framework “Strengthening and adjusting activities of the Government and of the donors for making assistance in Moldova efficient” was signed.
