The national boxing team returned with six medals from the European Cadet Championships that took place in the city of Banja Luka in Bosnia and Herzegovina, IPN reports.
Two Moldovan boxers became continental champions in this age category. Egor Certykovtsev from Tiraspol, in the up to 42 kg weight class, beat the UK’s Hussein Azaan in the final, while Andrei Timoshkov from Chisinau won in the 60 kg weight class after defeating Azerbaijan’s Nurlana Myceibli in the final.
Another representative of the Republic of Moldova, Alexandru-Ahile Buhaniuc from Orhei, became European vice-champion in the up to 50 kg weight class. Nikita Slepoi (40 kg, Tiraspol), Tudor Stratan (44 kg, Chisinau) and Alexandru Bujor (70 kg, Chisinau) won bronze medals.
With two gold, one silver and three bronze medals, the national boxing team took the sixth spot in the final rankings by nations. Five other boxers from the Republic of Moldova reached the quarterfinals and ranked fifth.
The European Cadet Championships involved 363 athletes from 30 countries.
