The Republic of Moldova achieved good results at the Kickboxing World Cup that was held in Austria during March 17-19. The national squad of the National Oriental Kickboxing Federation of the Republic of Moldova won eight gold medals, five silvers and five bronzes. For the first time, Moldova ranked seventh among the clubs and 13th among the 34 participating states, Tudor Gorea, president of the National Oriental Kickboxing Fedeation, stated in a news conference hosted by IPN.
Tudor Gorea said the Moldovan athletes showed good training and coped with the tough competition. It was a stiff competition for the sportspersons from Moldova, but many of these were close to winning the first place.
The Cup of the Republic of Moldova that will take place in Fălești is the next event. Discussions are now held for this competition to be divided into two and a part of the events to be held in Chisinau, while another part in Fălești as many experience difficulties in travelling and finding accommodation outside the capital city. The World Cup will take place in Hungary in May. This is a very important competition that usually involves about 4,000 athletes and is equal in value to the World and European Championships. The Moldovan athletes can gain positive experience at this competition. For the Republic of Moldova, the participation in this event became a tradition, said the president of the National Oriental Kickboxing Federation.
“This competition stimulated us to do our best and go with a larger number of athletes to this event. First of all, it was attractive. They offer belts for the first place there. We took part. Evidently, it was very hard. Some of the sportspersons were registered for two events on tatami and they coped well in both of them. The athletes fought well. We are satisfied. We won four belts, four silver medals and one bronze medal. We are very satisfied. In continuation, we are getting ready for the next competition – the Hungarian World Cup in Budapest. Later, in summer, there will be held the European Championships,” stated Radu Pahom, kickboxing trainer at Theoretical Sports Lyceum No. 2.
The vice president of the National Oriental Kickboxing Federation Eugen Musalimov said that closer cooperation between sports clubs brings more experience and more medals. “I’m glad every time an athlete brings medals or contends in championships and does not suffer traumas and is able to fight further and bring belts,” noted the trainer.
At the competition in Austria, the Republic of Moldova was represented by four sports clubs. The Austrian Kickboxing World Cup involved over 2,200 athletes from different countries.
