Moldova remained without representatives at the World Table Tennis Championship that is taking place in France. On May 15, Olga Bliznets was eliminated in the inaugural round of the individual women’s competition. The 17-year-old athlete was beaten by Misaki Morizono of Japan 0-4.
In the doubles, Bliznets played together with Alina Sandul, but didn’t achieve remarkable results.
Olga Bliznets is Moldova’s best table tennis player. She is the 300th in the world rankings and last year was close to qualifying for the London Olympics.
Olga was the only Moldovan sportswoman who passed all the qualifying rounds of the World Table Tennis Championship this year. Her colleague Alina Sandul as well as Igor Ni, Veniamin Dubrovin, Andrei Putuntica and Andrei Tarina were eliminated in the preliminary stage.
