Moldova willing to expand co-operation with Latvia
Moldova wants to expand its collaboration with Latvia. In the commercial-economic field a lot of potential is not turned to good account by both countries, the PM Vasile Tarlev declared at the end of his meeting with his Latvian counterpart Aigars Kalvitis, who is paying a visit to Moldova these days.
According to the press Service of the Government, Tarlev remarked the special interest of Moldova for intensifying the co-operation in the energetic field and others as well. He mentioned that together with his visit to Riga a campaign on promoting Moldovan wines is organized. All the previous actions of this kind, which were organized in other capitals of Europe, had a great success and stimulated the export of Moldovan goods in many European countries, the head of the Government declared in Chisinau.
Moldovan-Latvian co-operation within international organizations constituted a special chapter of the discussions between the two prime-ministers asserting that within both the frameworks of OSCE and EU, Latvia offered great support related to the Transnistrian issue, the cited source declared. The prime minister especially remarked the contribution of Latvia in creating and extending the EU Border Assistance Mission at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border.
“In the light of Moldova’s geographic, origin, history and spirituality European vocation, the country set as a strategic goal coming back to the European family, by joining the EU”, Tarlev declared.
Within the frameworks of this official visit in Moldova of the prime-minister of the Republic of Latvia, Aigaras Kalvitis, the Cooperation Agreement in Education, Culture, Youth and Sports was signed by the Government of the Republic of Moldova and Republic of Latvia.
In the first eight months of 2006, the volume of trades between Moldova and Latvia increased by 40%.
