Moldova will be truly sovereign when it will reunite

Moldova will be a truly independent state when the Transnistrian dispute will be settled, President Vladimir Voronin told BBC radio station, cited by Info-Prim Neo. The head of state said that there can not be any talks on the issue of creating a Transnistrian state. “There are no grounds which could allow speaking about Transnistria as an independent state. Both in Transnistria and the right bank of Nistru, the population’s composition, religion and economic development are the same. The Transnistrian administration that proposes to create a separate state as a compromise solution is only trying to dodge the main problems of reintegration. Referring about Transnistria’s independence referendum scheduled for September 17, 2006, the president declared that it is an attempt to divert the population’s attention from the real problems. Talking about the economic development strategy of Moldova, Vladimir Voronin mentioned that it will be the “most liberal”. The country’s leadership believes in market economy, supports and recognizes the rights of any type of property, the head of state says. At the same time, the president declared that the economy of Moldova should not ground on the trade with Russia. On the contrary, it must find alternative markets. Voronin reiterated the intention to achieve European integration and said that Moldova or a part of it will never unite with Romania, not even within the EU.
