The Republic of Moldova will be exempted from paying annual financial contributions for participation in European Union programmes for 2021-2027. A draft law on the ratification of the Framework Agreement stipulating this was adopted by the votes of 73 MPs, IPN reports.
The Republic of Moldova concluded several agreements with the European Union on Moldova’s participation in a series of thematic EU programs stipulated in the Multiannual Financial Framework for 2021-2027, such as Fiscalis, Customs, Single Market Programme, EU4Health, LIFE, Horizon Europe, Union Civil Protection Mechanism, Connecting Europe Facility. At the same time, the future agreements on Moldova’s association with EU programmes could also be subject to this suspension.
“Following the unprovoked and unjustified military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and its economic, financial and political consequences for the Republic of Moldova, the European Commission submitted to the Government of the Republic of Moldova the proposal to suspend the payments of financial contributions, starting with 2021, for the participation of the Republic of Moldova in the EU Programs stipulated in the Multiannual Financial Framework for 2021-2027,” reads the informative note of the draft law.
The European Commission will annually assess the Republic of Moldova and decide on the need to maintain the suspension.
