The inclusion of Moldova, together with Ukraine and Georgia, in the agenda of the NATO summit held last week was due to the regional policy pursued by the United States. That’s why the summit discussed the withdrawal of the military forces from Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine. The issue was developed in the talk show “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.

Elena Mirzac, director of the NATO Information and Documentation Center in Moldova, said the fact that security in the Black Sea region, the role of Romania and Article 7 of the final resolution concerning the withdrawal of the military forces from Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia were discussed is the most important aspect for the region where Moldova is situated.

Ion Tabirta, security expert at the Institute for Development and Social Initiative “Vitorul”, said the inclusion of Moldova, together with Ukraine and Georgia, in the agenda of the NATO summit and the formulation of the request to withdraw the Russian troops from these three countries were due to the United States’ regional policy. “We should honestly admit that the U.S. has never had a separate policy referring to the Republic of Moldova. The approach to our country depended on the United States‘ policy in the region,” he stated. According to the expert, given that Ukraine is at the forefront of the regional security, these subjects couldn’t have been absent from the discussions.

Expert in foreign policy Iulian Fruntasu said that not much can be expected from this summit. He noted he was concerned about the situation in Ukraine because the U.S. was rather unwilling to criticize Russia for annexing Crimea.
