Moldova wants to join EU, but without Romania
Moldova wants to join the European Union, but without Romania, Moldova’s Minister of Foreign Affairs told the Russian newspaper “Nezavisimaia Gazeta”.
According to the interview published in the newspaper’s Monday issue, April 16, Stratan said that “our wish to integrate in the European structures must not be seen as an aspiration to integrate with Romania”.
The minister said that Moldova will continue the political dialogue with Romania and the EU, including in what concerns the issue related to what Stratan called “speculations about the wish of Moldovan citizens to obtain Romanian citizenship”.
According to the same source, Stratan said that the Moldovan authorities will continue to insist upon signing the inter-state Political Treaty and Border Treaty with Romania. “So far, we did not receive an official answer on the refusal of Romania to sign these two political documents”, the Moldovan minister of Foreign Affairs stated in the interview with the Russian newspaper “Nezavisimaia Gazeta”.
