Moldova U21s move up from group's bottom
Moldova’s Under-21 national team obtained a 2-1 victory over Albania in the qualifiers of the 2013 European Championship. The match was played in Tiraspol, on Thursday, September 6, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Tricolors controlled the first half and opened the score on 8 minutes thanks to a goal from Artiom Haceaturov. Moldova could have doubled its lead, but Radu Gansari missed a penalty kick.
In the second half, the play was more balanced, with the Albanians pushing the game into the Moldovans’ area. However, it was striker Petru Leuca who scored for the Moldovans by the end of the game. The guests pulled one back in injury time through Elvis Prenci.
“We lacked energy in the final moments of the game, but what mattered for us was the result and it is in our favor”, declared Moldova U21 manager Alexandru Kurteyan. On the other side, coach Skender Gega was unhappy with the refereeing and with his players’ poor finishing.
After this victory, Moldova U21s moved up from the bottom of Group 6, ahead of Albania. The Tricolors have 6 points, one more than Albania, who have played all of their qualifying matches. Russia top the group after a 4-1 victory against Poland. On September 10, Russia will take on Moldova in the last qualifying match.
