Moldova to host third Global Conference on Wine Tourism

Moldova will host the third UNWTO Global Conference on Wine Tourism on September 6-7. To be able to organize the event, the Government approved a relevant agreement with the United Nations’ World Tourism Organization and will submit it to Parliament for ratification, IPN reports.

The agreement sets down the conditions of organizing the conference, the concessions and services that will be offered to participants. Activities to promote wine tourism and workshops will be staged as part of the event. There will be organized visits to tourist attractions in Moldova and ensured the exchange of experience.

Currently, about 20 national wineries provide tourism services for foreigners. This sector annually diversifies its products. The wineries stage cultural events and cooking workshops and involve tourists in the harvesting of grapes and production of personalized wines.

It should be noted that Moldova hosted the 61st Meeting of the WTO Regional Commission for Europe on June 5-7, 2017. World Tourism Organization Secretary General Taleb Rifai noted the good organization of the event. The participants visited tourist attractions and appreciated mainly the underground wine galleries in Cricova, Milestii Mici and Branesti.
