Moldova to hand over PA BSEC presidency to Romania

Moldova is to hand over the six-month presidency of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (PA BSEC) to Romania. In the 45th session of the PA BSEC, which is held in Chisinau on June 9 and 10, Head of Parliament Andrian Candu said the economic cooperation between states in a world of globalization is essential, IPN reports.

The Speaker said the economic cooperation between the countries from the Black Sea Region represents a valuable opportunity that will bring benefits to all the states from the region, contributing to regional stability and prosperity. The activity within this organization is probably the most difficult one because half of the 12 member states face conflicts on their territories, but the organization is an ideal platform of communication between the states that do not have bilateral relations.

Andrian Candu added that Moldova made a choice – it wants to become integrated into the EU, but can simultaneously have commercial relations with its traditional partners, from the East.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Natalia Gherman said that during the six-month presidency of the PA BSEC, Moldova made effort to promote regional stability and economic cooperation. An ambitious plan of action was worked out to strengthen cooperation in a number of areas, including economy, transport, and health.

In the period, there were staged three high-level meetings and Moldova cooperated with the EU in this regard. Natalia Gherman underlined that the communication between the PA BSEC and the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization must be improved.

The 45th session of the PA BSEC ends on June 10 with the handover of the presidency to Romania.
