Moldova to be promoted as attractive investment destination at Business Week 2022

Chisinau will host Moldova Business Week 2022 during September 15-16. The goal of the event that will bring together decision makers, national and foreign experts is to promote Moldova as an attractive investment destination. Representatives of the Investment Agency said that 83% of all the investments the last few years came from the European Union and the Moldovan authorities should become more competitive on the market so as to attract a larger number of foreign companies, IPN reports.

The new director of the Investment Agency Marin Ciobanu said that to persuade foreign companies to invest in Moldova, the authorities decided to create a platform for training qualified specialists.

“We will soon create a park in the field of research/engineering development so as to train specialists for national companies and also for foreign companies. Our partners GIZ and USAID assist us in creating this solid staff training platform. We were offered €0.5 million by GIZ and USAID is ready to provide US$1 million to us. At Moldova Business Week this year, we aim to present the investment offer of our country so that it becomes an attractive investment destination,” said Marin Ciobanu.

Moldova Business Week 2022 will present the investment offer and also the tax concessions provided to investors. “Given the energy crisis and the pandemic crisis, many companies rethink the supply chain. A delivery container from China to Europe earlier cost US$ 2,500, but now costs almost US$ 18,000. We feel this. We received requests from European companies that want to move somewhere closer to the borders of the European Union. Therefore, we should be flexible and try to attract these companies,” stated the Investment Agency’s director.

“83% of all the investments the past three years came from the European Union. This shows that the Republic of Moldova is an investment destination that holds interest. There are 100-130 foreign companies interested in investing in the Republic of Moldova. There is stiff competition as not only we offer tax concessions. The Baltic States also do this. We are in competition with the countries with a large population that can provide a large number of qualified and unqualified workers. Last year, the representatives of 40 companies interested in such strategic areas as IT and creative industries visited the Republic of Moldova,” said the head of the Agency’s Investment Attraction and Protection Department Igor Ștefăneț.

Moldova Business Week 2022 will take place at the Palace of the Republic in Chisinau starting at 11am.
