Moldova, Qatar sign cooperation agreements
The Republic of Moldova and the State of Qatar signed a series of cooperation agreements in Doha. At the beginning of next year, a joint delegation of Qatar consisting of members of the Government and business circles will visit Moldova to study the investment and commercial opportunities and to establish cooperation relations in agriculture, education and infrastructure, Info-Prim Neo has learned from the Government’s press service.
The agreements were signed in the presence of Moldova’s Prime Minister Vlad Filat and Qatari Premier Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber bin Muhammad Al-Thani, who said that Qatar wants to develop the bilateral relations.
The signed agreements concern the reciprocal promotion and protection of investments, the economic and technical cooperation, and the abolition of the visa regime for holders of diplomatic and special passports. There were also signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in tourism between the two states and a memorandum of understanding in the field of sport between the National Olympic Committees of Moldova and Qatar.
Vlad Filat said that this visit is very important as it will lay the basis for sustainable and mutually advantageous cooperation relations. He reiterated Moldova’s interest in opening an embassy in Qatar and thanked the Qatari authorities for their readiness to provide an area for basing the embassy, for a period of two years initially.
The sides agreed that joint projects will be initiated and implemented in the future, with the involvement of experts in different fields. The Moldovan Premier said that Moldova is for developing the commercial-economic potential existing between the two countries and for attracting Qatari investments to such strategic areas as infrastructure and agriculture.
Vlad Filat invited his Qatari counterpart to pay a visit to Moldova in 2013 or as part of a regional tour.
