Moldova needs Klaus Iohannis’ victory in presidential elections of Romania, NGO

Moldova needs the victory of Klaus Iohannis in the second round of the presidential elections of Romania, which will take place on November 16, representatives of the NGO “Justice and Fairness”, said in a news conference at IPN. According to them, the regional context makes Romania the only example worth to be followed by Moldova and the victory of the Social-Democratic Party’s candidate Victor Ponta would undermine this model.

“Romania is a corridor that can ensure our movement forward so that we become a state where the public institutions work for the people’s benefit, while the person’s safety is guaranteed. Romania is the only corridor that ensures connection between Moldova and Europe through which such values as independent justice, the rule of law and preeminence of the law are transferred,” said Ion Dron, who heads the NGO “Justice and Fairness”. According to him, this link will be lost at the border with Romania if Victor Ponta becomes head of state.

“We need positive examples. We face problems at the north and the south and we are surrounded. The border at the Prut is the only corridor. The coming to power of Ponta is not a positive example for Moldova. The independent justice is the decisive factor for Moldova and, if you want, a struggle will take place over the next five years for gaining the independence of justice. With Ponta as head of state, his behavior and arrogance towards this value is defying,” stated Ion Dron. He reminded that Victor Ponta’s actions of 2012 were described by many as anti-constitutional and aroused concern in the West.

“For us, Klaus Iohannis is the person who can ensure the continuity of this corridor for transferring such values as independent justice and the rule of law from the EU to Chisinau,” noted Ion Dron.

“We support Mister Klaus Iohannis because we consider him a personality who can really promote the European values in,” said Sergiu Branzila, a member of the NGO “Justice and Fairness”. He also spoke about the accomplishments of Klaus Iohannis as mayor of Sibiului, where the local GDP per capita rose to 8,600 Romanian lei, which is three times higher than the national average. “This shows that he can manage things correctly. For Moldova, which tend towards correct justice, this is very important,” he stated.

The representatives of the NGOs called on the Moldovans with Romanian nationality to take part in the elections on November 16 and to vote for Klaus Iohannis. They also made a public call to the Embassy of Romania in Moldova to open more polling places for the second round of voting. In this connection, Ion Dron accused the Ponta Government of badly organizing the elections abroad on purpose as the votes of the diaspora were mainly for Klaus Iohannis.

A number of 21 polling places for the Romanian presidential elections will work in Moldova on November 16. Four of them are in Chisinau.
