Moldova joins several EU programs

Moldova is joining a number of European Union programs in the fields of customs, taxation and health, which will bring tangible benefits to citizens, including Moldovan entrepreneurs. The possibility of reducing roaming tariffs with the European Union is also being examined. This was announced by Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița and Josep Borrell, EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and vice-president of the European Commission, after the meeting of the EU-Moldova Association Council, which took place on Tuesday in Brussels.

As for trade relations, today it was decided to create a priority action plan for Moldova. According to the European official, this will allow the acceleration of Moldova’s access to the European Union’s single market. “Since the last Association Council, we have provided over one billion euros in assistance. The economic and investment plan still has great untapped potential, which must be used to support the reform agenda. Certainly, we encourage Moldova to use it to the fullest”, said the vice-president of the European Commission.

An important part of the discussions concerned the deepening of cooperation in foreign policy, security and defense. “Regarding the Transnistrian conflict, we reaffirmed our commitment to facilitate an extensive, peaceful and sustainable settlement process, based on respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Moldova within its internationally recognized borders and with a special status for Transnistria”, Josep Borrell declared.

Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița stated that European integration is the guarantee of Moldova’s development and modernization based on the values it shares with its friends from the European Union. She added that the Republic of Moldova is determined to strengthen political and economic ties with the European Union, including by participating in as many EU programs as possible. “We stated our willingness to join the common area of roaming and payment services. I’m glad that there is openness from our European interlocutors to work in this direction”, Natalia Gavrilița said.
