The Republic of Moldova is very vulnerable from all viewpoints to the Russian Federation. Russia, in the swiftest way possible, can resort to the checking of papers of Moldovans who work in Russia and many of these could be expelled during several days or weeks. The issue was developed in the talk show “People’s Council” on 10TV channel following the declaring of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin as a persona non-grata in Moldova, IPN reports.

Ex-member of the Joint Control Commission Ion Leahu said the Moldovans will be seriously affected by the expulsions from Russia. The export of raw material and agricultural products could also be affected. “The Moldovan-administered Romanian-language schools will found themselves in a dangerous situation as they will be exposed to pressure,” stated Leahu. Furthermore, the farmers from the six Moldova villages in Transnistria could remain without farmland, which is their source of livelihood.

Security expert Rosian Vasiloi said he welcomes the Government’s decision to declare Dmitry Rogozin persona non-grata, but this was taken with delay as the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia made too many statements that offended the citizens of the Republic of Moldova in time. “I want to believe that what happened forms part of the series of measures aimed at reunifying the country as the Republic of Moldova during these 25 years didn’t have a clear view. The next step is for the authorities to suggest a clear strategy, to propose it for public debates, to sensitize the public opinion and to achieve a national consensus on how we see this reintegration. Only in such a case can we say that the authorities are consistent in their acts and that this decision wasn’t taken in a regional, political context,” stated the expert.

The Cabinet on August 2 approved a decision on the imposition of restrictive measures on the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Rogozin whereby this is declared undesirable on Moldova’s territory.
