“The Moldovan authorities, both the Presidential Office and the Government, continue, including by diplomatic ways, to look for responsible solutions for the benefit of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, for methods for supplying the country with energy in a safe and reliable way,” said Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of foreign Affairs and European Integration, being quoted by IPN.

“We continue the dialogue with the Russian Federation by all he possible channels, including through the line of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Last week, I confirmed I will pay a working visit to Moscow in November, at the invitation of my counterpart Sergey Lavrov, and the holding of the co-presidency of the Moldovan-Russian Intergovernmental Commission,” said Nicu Popescu.

He noted that the Republic of Moldova is interested in efficient and predictable cooperation in the energy sector and banks on the solving of the gas supply problem as swiftly as possible. This is the message that he also transmitted at the meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council that was held on October 15.

“During the last few days, in parallel with the actions taken by my mates from the Government, the Ministry continues the discussions with high-ranking officials of the governments of Romania, Ukraine, Germany, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Poland, Turkey and Azerbaijan and with other partners of the region so as to identity a solution to the energy issue,” said Nicu Popescu.

The official noted that as an EU associated country, the Republic of Moldova has benefited not only from political support, but also from practical support from the EU and the EU Member States. “Last week, we discussed the energy issue with Mister Oliver Varhelyi, European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, in Brussels. The same issue was complementarily considered in the consecutive video conferences with the Directorates General for Energy and for Neighborhood and Enlargement on October 14,” stated Nicu Popescu.

He also said that the recent completion of the last works on the Iasi-Chisinau gas pipeline and the interconnections in the electricity sector (important strategic projects that will enable Romania and the Republic of Moldova to further strengthen cooperation in ensuring energy security) were also discussed in a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Bogdan Aurescu last week.
