Moldova is lagging in CIS according to certain macroeconomic indicators
Moldova is on a lagging position among the member states of the CIS according to certain macroeconomic indicators calculated for the first four months of 2006, reports the CIS Statistic Committee.
As regards to the industrial sector, Moldova is on the eighth spot, with its volume of industrial production reduced by 5.9% compared to the same period of 2005. Therefore, the Moldovan industrial sector is last but one position, before Kyrgystan, which registered a reduction of industrial production by 9.5%.
On the whole, in January-April 2006, CIS registered an industrial increase of 4%, compared to 5% in the same period of last year. The highest increase in industry was reported by Azerbaijan – 45%, followed by Belarus – 12.3%, Tajikistan – 7.2%, Russia – 3.5%, Kazakhstan – 2.7% and Ukraine – 0.4%. In Armenia the industrial production reduced by 2.9%, and Georgia, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan have not submitted data regarding industrial evolutions.
Moldova is has failed at agriculture as well, registering the lowest increase within CIS – 0.8%. On average, the community increased the volume of the industrial production by 3%, in January-April. The leader according to this indicator is Belarus with 10.1%, followed by Ukraine – 4%, Kazakhstan – 3.8%, Armenia – 3.5%, Azerbaijan – 2.5%, Russia – 1.3% and Kyrgyzstan – 0.9%. Georgia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan did not present confident data.
According to data of the first four months of 2006, Moldova is the single member state of CIS, among the countries presenting data, registering reductions of the volume of goods transportation – by 21.6%. In total in CIS, the goods transport sector made an increase of 7%. The highest increases were made by Armenia – 37.5%, followed by Tajikistan – 15.3%, Azerbaijan – 11.9%, Belarus – 11.5%, Russia – 9.3%, Kyrgyz Stan – 9.1%, Kazakhstan – 4.9% and Ukraine – 0.4%. Georgia, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan did not present data.
