Moldova is a model of social cohesion, OSCE High Commissioner

The Republic of Moldova is a veritable model for the whole region from the viewpoint of social cohesion and harmonious cohabitation of different ethnic communities, said the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Kairat Abdrakhmanov, who is in Chisinau on a working visit, IPN reports.

Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, confirmed that the objective of strengthening society is a priority for the authorities and this derives from the commitment to further promote national policies to ensure the social inclusion of minorities undertaken by the Republic of Moldova.

The Moldovan official thanked for the support offered to the Republic of Moldova by the OSCE High Commissioner during the last few years in different areas, such as linguistic training of public functionaries, promotion of interethnic dialogue and multilingual education.

In a meeting, the diplomats exchanged opinions about subjects concerning the interethnic and political relations for integrating national minorities. “We devoted special attention to the exchange of opinions on ways in which the OSCE can support programs by which members of the ethnic community can learn Romanian,” stated Nicu Popescu.

The interlocutors agreed to maintain a constructive dialogue between the Republic of Moldova and the autonomous institution of the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities for taking measures aimed at promoting national minorities’ effective participation.
