The Moldovan authorities hope the European assessment mission that will come to Moldova to examine the animal products intended for export in November will allow extending the range of products of animal origin exported to the EU. According to Deputy Minister of Economy Octavian Calmac, the higher exports of animal products to the EU could help increase the general exports by 16%, IPN reports.
“We hope the economic entities that are interested in exporting such products will be active and will file applications for being inspected,” the official said in an international conference entitled “Let’s benefit more from the DCFTA (Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area)” on October 22. “When our economic entities meet the set criteria, they will be allowed to export products of animal origin to the EU market.”
Octavian Calmac noted that there are two sets of conditions for Moldova: to harmonize the national system of sanitary, phytosanitary and veterinary requirements with the European ones and to meet these requirements on the export of animal products. “At the first stage, we plan that the fresh eggs and poultry will be included in this harmonization process. At the other dimensions, there are much more complex processes related to food safety, which will be performed gradually,” said the deputy minister.
Moldova can now export to the EU bee honey and caviar.
