Moldova does not recognize Belarus elections and accuses lack of transparency

The authorities in Chisinau have criticized the presidential election in Belarus, held on January 26. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained in a press release that officials in Minsk "did not invite OSCE member states to observe the election, which hindered an impartial and independent assessment of the electoral process", IPN reports.

Transparency and adherence to democratic principles are essential, emphasize the Ministry's representatives. Furthermore, they remind that Moldova has aligned itself with the European Union's statements regarding the violations of fundamental rights in Belarus and supports international measures aimed at protecting these rights.

Within the OSCE, Moldova actively cooperates to promote the rule of law and free, fair elections. Although the Minsk authorities did not invite observers from Moldova for this election, the country continues to support international efforts to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process in the region, state officials in Chisinau affirm.
