Moldova delegation to participate to Annual meeting of EBRD Board of Governors

A delegation of Moldova will participate on May 20-21 to the Annual meeting of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Board of Governors, which will take place in Kazani, Republic of Tatarstan. The EBRD annual meeting will take place simultaneously with a Business forum. It is expected that this year the event will gather approximately two thousand participants, including government officials, bankers and businessmen, investors, representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises, etc. Minister of Economy and Commerce Igor Dodon will make a presentation within the framework of the plenary meeting of the EBRD Governors on the development of business environment in Moldova, on the opportunities and challenges of the EU enlargement. At the same time, the Moldovan delegation will lead discussions with foreign business circles in order to attract investment; will have unofficial bilateral meetings with representatives of governments of the EBRD member states and other donors. EBRD plans to implement in Moldova in 2007 projects valued at approximately EUR 30 million. The EBRD investment might be larger if viable projects are developed. Also, there are premises to extend this year the number of banks which EBRD cooperates with, through opening lines of credit. EBRD is interested in financing new projects for the Chisinau International Airport. The major fields in which EBRD will implement projects are the banking and the agro-industrial sector. EBRD examines also potential transactions in telecommunications and informatics sector, as well as in the leasing sector.
