The Republic of Moldova has successfully concluded the bilateral screening process with the European Commission on Chapter 10 – Information Society and Media, which is an important stage in the EU accession negotiations. The meetings took place in Brussels a few days ago and were chaired by Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gerasimov and State Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization Catalina Plinschi, IPN reports.
The Moldovan and European Commission officials analyzed the legislation regulating information technologies, electronic communications and media services.
Cristina Gerasimov stressed the importance of Chapter 10 for the country's digital progress and noted that the implementation of policies in the field will boost digitalization, improve audiovisual services and strengthen cybersecurity: "These measures will contribute to building a modern, connected and objectively informed society."
The Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization said that the Republic of Moldova made significant progress in adapting the European legislation in the digital and communications sector, including in transposing regulations, such as the European Electronic Communications Code and the Roaming Regulation, which will allow Moldovan citizens to benefit from #RoamLikeAtHome services in the European Union.
Measures were also adopted to strengthen cybersecurity and ensure wider access to government data.
According to the Ministry, the completion of this screening marks an important stage in the European path of the Republic of Moldova. Among the next step are the formulation of the negotiating position on this chapter and the official launch of accession negotiations.
