Moldova can win grand prize of Tbilisi Film Festival, Dumitru Marian
Five countries from Eastern Europe and Caucasus will participate in the International Film Festival in Tbilisi. A contest to select the documentaries that benefit from financing will be held as part of the festival. Dumitru Marian, ALTFILM producer, said that he does not yet know what subjects Moldova will present, but is convinced that it has chances to take the grand prize of US$5,000, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Tbilisi festival launched a new project to finance documentaries called Pitch.Doc. “Pitch.Doc is a contest of film projects that will be held in Georgia. Producers and sponsors from all over the world will come to the festival. The selected film projects will be presented to an international commission, during 15 minutes each,” Dumitru Marian said.
The countries that can participate in the project are Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Moldova. Each country can present by two projects. The film projects will be selected by the partners of the organizers in each of these countries. In Moldova, the partner is ALTFILM. “The projects must be sent to Georgia by October 31. Only two projects have been submitted to ALTFILM so far. But they would probably not be eligible. The deadline for applications in Moldova is October 25,” Dumitru Marian said.
If no project is selected for participation in the contest, Dumitru Marian will submit his own projects. “It would be a pity not to take part in the contest. I'm scertain that Moldova will participate and can win the grand prize,” the producer said.
“Those that send film projects must take into account the global interest. In Tbilisi, the projects will be presented to an international audience with a different mentality and culture. To get the prize, one should impress everyone. The theme of the film must be universal – about the youth, drugs, migrants.”
The film must be 52 minutes long. The organizers cover the traveling and accommodation expenses of the participants. There is no participation fee. An obligation is that all the related documents must be in English. The projects can be sent to office@altfilm.md by October 25.
