The Republic of Moldova became a transit country for migrants from Africa and Asia, who aim to reach Europe. In order to obtain Romanian passports in Chisinau, they pay by US$10,000, the head of the National Anticorruption Council “Moldova Mea” Fiodor Ghelici said in a news conference, quoted by IPN.
“Paris, Frankfurt and Vienna are the most frequent destinations. This ‘business’ is deep-rooted and involves the Migration and Asylum Bureau, the Security and Information Service, and the Border Police. Moldova represents a threat for Europe. Our country’s image before the Europeans has been damaged long ago,” stated Fiodor Ghelici. He also said that another scheme is used to facilitate the migrants’ trips to Russia, where they are issued with Jewish passports that they use to migrate to Europe.
Fiodor Ghelici came before the journalists accompanied by the director of a Chisinau company. Tatiana Scurupa said that somebody, in the name of the firm, made an invitation to Chisinau to a citizen from Cameroon. She found out about this much later.
According to the woman, in February she filed a set of documents for inviting three citizens from Uganda for business purposes to the competent services. In a month, she was informed that the file was lost and she should submit the documents again. In March the invitations were issued, but in April they were cancelled. Also in April Tatiana Scurupa was phoned by a person from Cameroon, who asked to which account he should send the money for the invitation. She thus found out about the invitation made in the name of the company.
The woman said that she informed the competent bodies, but nothing has been done yet. The National Anticorruption Council “Moldova Mea” announced it will report this case to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office.
