Moldova asks for the support of the World Bank in order to obtain a new trade regime with EU
The speaker of the parliament, Marian Lupu, solicited to the World Bank to support Moldova in the dialogue with the European Union on facilitating to obtaining a new commercial regime with EU and the system of autonomous commercial preferences. This solicitation was made at the meeting with the executive director of WB for Moldova, Jan Willem van der Kaaij, who is paying a familiarization visit to Chisinau.
According to Lupu, this fact contributes to diminishing the negative economic effects of Romania’s and Bulgaria’s integration in the EU, because the quality of EU members of these two states will lead to canceling the free trade agreements with the Republic of Moldova.
Marian Lupu welcomed the resuming of the dialogue with the international financial institutions, mentioning the importance of signing a new financing program with the International Monetary Fund. “We acknowledge the importance of a good cooperation with the international financial institutions and we already started to implement the assumed reforms, adopting amendments to the Law on National Bank of Moldova and National Council of Creditors”, the head of the Parliament specified.
The executive director of WB for Moldova emphasized, in this context, the necessity to adjust the short and medium term solutions with the perspective vision for the social-political and economical development of the Republic of Moldova and also to ensure a systematic approach in implementing economic reforms.
