Politician Sergiu Mocanu and his sons Roman and Adrian will file a lawsuit against the Communist leader Vladimir Voronin. Recently, Roman and Adrian Mocanu were acquitted in a criminal case started in 2008, when they were accused of causing serious bodily injuries. According to them, legal action against them was taken by order of Vladimir Voronin, who was then head of state, in order to stop Sergiu Mocanu from making accusations against him.
In a news conference at IPN, Sergiu Mocanu said the lives of his son changed after they had to hide for a year at the Romanian Embassy in Chisinau so as not to be tried. “One of my sons was a student then and he had to interrupt his studies. The other son only started a business and had to suspend it,” he stated.
The leader of the People’s Movement “Antimafie” noted he was then informed that Voronin personally ordered arresting his sons. He asked the Communist leader what he can do to save his sons and he was told to leave the country. “I agreed. I was ready to leave. But the next day Voronin changed his mind,” said the politician.
According to Sergiu Mocanu, there is evidence in the President’s archives showing that Vladimir Voronin managed the country abusively. “My sons are going to file a civil lawsuit against the state because they were held illegally. We will ask for damages. We think that Voronin must pay personally. We will give this money for reforming the legal system,” he said.
Sergiu Mocanu also said that they will look for possibilities to hold Vladimir Voronin accountable for abuse of power.
The Mocanu family thanked the Romanian authorities for protecting Roman and Adrian for a year despite the pressure exerted by the Communist government.
