Ministry of Justice loses lawsuit to an opposition party
The Court of Appeals ruled in favour of the Social Democrat Party of Moldova (SDPM) on February 27, obliging the Ministry of Justice to introduce the changes regarding the new leader of the SDPM in the Register of Parties and to issue an Excerpt from the register with the operated changes.
According to a press release from the party, on November 4, 2006 the Congress of the Social Democrat Party of Moldova decided to make changes in the composition of party’s leadership.
On November 21, 2006, SDPM submitted to the Ministry of Justice a request to register the changes and presented all the necessary documents, including additional information requested by the Ministry.
However, the representatives of the party said the Ministry of Justice did not operate the changes included in the request within the period of time stipulated by the legislation, setting forth arguments which do not have any legal support and repeatedly requesting additional information.
The new chairman of the SDPM is Eduard Musuc, the son of Ion Musuc who was previously leading the party.
