The Ministry of Energy intends to develop test centers for innovative solutions in the field of energy and decarbonization, known as “sandboxes”. The idea was discussed with representatives of the Western NIS Enterprise Fund, an American investment fund that supports small and medium-sized companies.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Energy, the goals are to reduce energy bills through energy efficiency measures and to implement innovative technologies. Minister Victor Parlicov gave the example of an electric car whose battery can also serve as an energy generator for a home.
“We need enthusiasts to experiment with different ideas and other enthusiasts who want to apply these ideas, but also a regulatory framework to help them work together”, said Parlicov.
According to Victor Parlicov, many businessmen in the country see solar panels as the only solution to reduce bills. “We at the Ministry want to offer a vision of the future. Panels are not a viable solution, there are technical limitations for the grid, and we are going to find other sustainable solutions”, added the energy minister.
Countries like Portugal, Singapore or the Netherlands have successful experiences implementing sandboxes and the Ministry of Energy will take into account these experiences to develop its own concept.
