Ministry of Economy and Commerce solicits assistance from DFID for the promotion of European integration policies

The Ministry of Economy and Commerce solicits from the UK Department for International Development (DFID) to examine the possibility of offering technical assistance for the strengthening of the capacities of the central public administration as regards the promotion of European integration policies. At the same time, assistance for the strengthening of the capacities of the local public administrations in drawing up and implementing programmes for the support of disadvantaged categories of persons was solicited. At a recent meeting with the head of Europe and Central Asia Department of DFID, Pauline Hayes, the deputy minister of Economy and Commerce, Sergiu Sainciuc thanked DFID for the assistance offered to Moldova until now. “We appreciate the contribution of DFID, especially in drawing up the Middle Term Plan of Expenses (MTPE) and we very much count on continuing the collaboration in drawing up the MTPE for the next period, contributing in this way to the improvement of the efficiency of public spending” Sainciuc said. At the same time, the deputy minister mentioned about the importance and impact of the support provided by DFID in the agro-alimentary field, rural development, and development of national statistics, social assistance and reform of the public sector. The technical cooperation between Moldova and DFID started in 1991 by the launch of small regional projects. The most of the assistance was provided for the banking and agricultural fields. Since the beginning of its activity in Moldova, DFID financed 52 projects to the total value of GBP 13 mln (USD 22 mln). Of these projects, 42 are finished, and another 10 – are working.
