Minister Usatyi classed as suspect in National Hospital case

The National Anticorruption Center (NAC) handed over the ordinance of being a suspect in the National Clinical Hospital case to Health Minister Andrei Usatyi. The minister is suspected of exceeding his authority when mortgaging 546 square meters of the hospital. For his part, Andrei Usatyi said he will sue the NAC for the actions taken against him and the Health Ministry, Info-Prim Neo reports. “I was familiarized with the ordinance. I haven’t been yet accused. I‘m not guilty. I will read the ordinance carefully and will then make statements,” the minister told the press after going out of the NAC head office on February 18. He also said that he sent a letter to the acting prosecutor general, informing him about the illegal steps taken by the Center. “I will sue the NAC because they speak about a long imprisonment term, but I bear no blame,” said Andrei Usatyi. In a communiqué, the Center says that if Andrei Usatyi is found guilty, he will serve up to 10 years in jail and will be banned from holding certain public posts. In a press release issued by the PLDM, which proposed Andrei Usatyi for minister, it is said that the NAC took the measures by order. “We condemn the opening of criminal cases by order of politicians and parties, which discredit democracy and the European values to which Moldova aspires. The PLDM gives a vote of no confidence to the NAC administration that compromised the reform of this important state institution and the values typical of a state with rule of law.
