Minister Jizdan warns patrolling officers they could be penalized

The patrolling officers who will groundlessly stop drivers in traffic will be penalized. Minister of the Interior Alexandru Jizdan told a news conference that people file complaints about the abuses committed by the patrolling police, IPN reports.

Alexandru Jizdan said the whole process will be monitored by the special services of the Ministry of the Interior and the monitoring will show if the taken measures are correct or changes are needed in the work of the police.

The minster noted that when the National Patrolling Inspectorate was founded, the duty of patrolling officers was to patrol areas with a high crime rate where the people are not safe. But these gradually turned into traffic officers.

According to Alexandru Jizdan, the Ministry was informed that a lot of drivers are stopped by patrolling officers even if they do not break the traffic rules. The law specifies the reason for which cars can be stopped and the patrolling police are obliged to obey these provisions. If they do not, they will be punished accordingly.

“If we solve this problem of abuses by the patrolling police, the people’s confidence in the police will rise,” stated the minister.

Alexandru Jizdan also said that the reformation of the Ministry of Justice is for the people’s benefit, while the taken steps are designed to improve the services provided for the population. “I call on everyone to come to the Ministry and tell us how our employees act so that we could take measures,” he urged.

During the last two months, the Ministry of the Interior received over 100 complaints from people about abuses committed by the patrolling police.
