Minister Alexei Buzu's clarifications on light compensation from EU aid

With the support of the European Union, the Government of the Republic of Moldova will provide compensations for electricity consumption for all families in the country until December 2025. Each family will pay for the first 110 KWh of the bill at the tariff that was before the increases.

Asked by IPN, Minister of Labor and Social Protection Alexei Buzu said that the compensation will be offered regardless of whether the family is included in the compensation system or not.

The mechanism for granting compensation is not yet finalized, but the easiest way to access the aid will be chosen, the minister said.

Efforts are being made to make these payments for consumption in February and the following months until the end of the year. "If a family consumes 110 Kwh, this means that for them in practice tariffs will not increase," the minister said.

As for eligible applicants, registered in the Meter Help compensation system, Alexei Buzu said that for January about 700 thousand families will receive compensation. "The compensations for January concern heating and electricity. We will cover those tariff increases," the minister said.

The package announced on February 4 by the EU provides medium-term aid of €250 million for the right bank. Of this money, €151 million is to compensate for electricity tariff increases for all consumers.
