Minimum salary raised by 500 lei

In 2025, the minimum salary in the public sector will increase from 5,000 to 5,500 lei. This is provided in the draft state budget law for next year, which was approved by the Cabinet on Wednesday, IPN reports.

Under the draft law, the basic reference value for calculating salaries in the public sector will grow by 5%. "The increase in the reference value, from 2,100 to 2,200 lei, influences 57,247 public sector employees. The cost for the budget is 270 million lei," said Minister of Finance Victoria Belous.

At the same meeting, the Cabinet approved the draft law on the unitary salary system in the public sector.

"The bill proposes to correlate the amount of compensatory payments granted to public sector staff taking into account the national minimum salary set from January 1, 2025, of 5,500 lei," noted the minister.

In 2024, the minimum salary was 5,000 lei, by 1,000 lei higher than in 2023.
