All pensioners with more than 40 years of work will have a guaranteed minimum pension of 3 300 lei, while other pensions will be indexed by 10% from May. President Maia Sandu has promulgated amendments to the law on the public pension system, which provides for an increase in the minimum pension for people who have contributed to the social security system for at least 40 years, IPN reports.
According to a presidential press release, the head of state agreed with the Moldovan government on indexing all pensions by 10% this year, so that the increase would exceed the average inflation rate in 2024.
"I signed the law increasing the minimum pension for those who have contributed to the Pension Fund for 40 years or more to 3 300 lei. At the same time, we discussed with the government about indexing all pensions by 10% this year," Maia Sandu said.
According to the Presidency, the measure is part of a broader set of economic and social reforms aimed at ensuring a sustainable increase in living standards and providing real support to Moldovan citizens.
In recent years, the minimum pension has risen from 1180 lei to 2800 lei and the average pension has doubled from 2000 lei to 4000 lei.
