Mihai Popșoi: ACUM did everything it could to unblock work in Parliament

ACUM/PAS lawmaker Mihai Popșoi says his bloc agrees with President Dodon that MPs exist to work in the interest of the people. With the only difference, claims Popșoi, that ACUM “did everything it could” to unblock work in Parliament, while Socialists “turned their backs yet again”.

“Why not show up in Parliament and have a talk? Because, as a fellow bloc member put it, coalitions are not discussed in restaurants or at the bar”, Popșoi posted to FB.

Earlier today President Igor Dodon gave parliamentary groups until June 7 to agree on a majority, or face Parliament’s dissolution. Dodon also said he formally asked the Constitutional Court whether the three months’ countdown before the dissolution starts with the validation of MP mandates or with Parliament’s inaugural sitting.

ACUM and PSRM have had several attempts at discussing some form of cooperation in Parliament, but while the bloc wants a quick deal involving “de-oligarchization” measures to loosen the Democratic Party’s grip on state institutions, Socialists insist on a full-fledged coalition government in spite of irreconcilable ideological differences. Meanwhile, PDM tried twice to invite ACUM at the negotiating table, unsuccessfully.
