Mihai Isac: Romanian citizens in Moldova did not fall into trap of populist promises of parties of Romania

It’s good that the Romanian citizens in the Republic of Moldova, who participated in the European Parliament elections, did not fall into the trap of fake news and populist promises coming from parties of Romania, said Romanian political commentator Mihai Isac. According to him, as a result of the June 9 European Parliament elections, many of the Moldovan citizens already became part of the European electoral space, IPN reports.

According to data of the Permanent Electoral Authority of Romania, 56,700 Romanian citizens from the Republic of Moldova participated in the June 9 European Parliament elections. Political commentator Mihai Isac described the turnout of Bessarabians at the polls as exemplary.

“The citizens of the Republic of Moldova are already part of the European electoral space. This participation makes us believe that when the Republic of Moldova will hold European Parliament elections to send its own representatives to the European Parliament, the citizens will have a greater experience than the state institutions of the Republic of Moldova. A large part of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova are already integrated into the European Union. The institutions will catch up with them,” Mihai Isac stated in the program “Parallel 47” on Radio Moldova station.

He noted that the categorical vote of the electors in Moldova in favor of the PNL-PSD candidates shows that the Bessarabians have not fallen prey to the populism promoted by the extremist parties of Romania.

“Unfortunately, in Romania we have exotic characters who will reach the European Parliament, such as Diana Șosoacă. The fact that the citizens of the Republic of Moldova have not fallen into the trap of fake news, in the avalanche of populist promises of far-right parties of Romania, is gratifying. Regrettably, a part of the electorate in Romania did not rise to the level of the electorate in the Republic of Moldova. The fact that the Romanian citizens in the Republic of Moldova, who exercised their right to vote, didn’t give the extremist forces the importance they expected shows a degree of maturity that pleasantly surprised even the political commentators in Bucharest. We see that in the Republic of Moldova, the anti-European narrative doesn’t catch attention very quickly. We can say that a part of the electorate of the Republic of Moldova is already immunized against these hybrid tactics of the Russian Federation,” stated the political commentator.

For the June 9 European Parliament elections, 52 polling stations were established on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.
