MFA upset by actions of some Russian and Romanian officials on Moldova’s territory

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration informed on the same day, September 7, both the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Moldova and the Romanian Embassy of worrisome actions by some officials of these states on the territory of Moldova, the Ministry’s press service reported. The Ministry sent a note to the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Moldova in connection with the participation of members of State Duma and of the Russian diplomatic corps in the events dedicated to the celebration of the so-called “Republic’s Day” in the breakaway region of Moldova, which took place on September 2. According to the note, the Ministry qualifies the speeches of the Russian officials in support of the Transnistrian self-proclaimed administration as an act of encouragement of the separatist regime, and urges the Russian side to refrain from further actions that could harm the bilateral relations. The same day, the Ministry summoned Monica Sitaru, Chargé d'affaires of the Romanian Embassy in Chisinau. The Romanian diplomat was informed of the Moldovan authorities’ concern regarding reports in the Chisinau-based media of the intention of a Romanian member of Parliament to organise in Chisinau “public hearings” for Moldovan nationals. MFA expressed hope that the Romanian authorities will take the required measures to avoid such precedents. Both the Romanian and Russian MFA left the letters of the Moldovan diplomats without any response.
